Barbara Boxer is an American politician who served as a United States Senator from California from 1993 to 2017.
Early Life and Career
Boxer was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 11, 1940. In the 1960s, she worked as a stockbroker and then as a research scientist. From 1972 to 1974, she was a reporter for the Pacific Sun newspaper.
Early Political Career
In 1974, Boxer began her political career as an aide to Congressman John Burton. She served in the California Assembly from 1978 to 1982 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1993.
Senate Service
In 1992, Boxer was elected to the U.S. Senate and was re-elected three times. She was a member of the Democratic Party and served on numerous committees, including the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Political Views
Boxer was considered one of the most liberal senators in the United States. She supported environmental protection, gun control, and abortion rights. She also opposed the Iraq War and advocated for increased government spending on social programs.
