Birth and Early Life
Barukh Kamin, born as Bureh Kaminker, was born in Ackerman, Bessarabia. He graduated from the Kishinev Agricultural University and became a prominent figure in the Gorodonia Zionist youth movement in Romania.
Immigration to Palestine and Military Service
In 1939, Kamin immigrated to Palestine and lived in the Nir-Am kibbutz in the Negev desert from 1939 to 1947. During World War II, he underwent military training and was part of a 10-man parachute mission into Romania in 1943 to establish a partisan movement. He remained in Romania until the Red Army defeated Romanian forces in 1944.
Post-War Activities
After the war, Kamin served as a delegate for the illegal emigration of Jews from Eastern Europe to Palestine from 1945 to 1946. He then worked as an emigration emissary in Czechoslovakia and Austria from 1948 to 1949.
Political Career
Kamin was elected to the Knesset as a member of the Mapai party from 1953 to 1955. He later served as the secretary of the Herzliya City Council from 1956 to 1964 and as the director of the Histadrut (national trade union) cultural department.
Literary Works
In 1987, Kamin published a memoir entitled "Airborne and Rescue: With the Jews of Romania during and after the Holocaust."
