Biography of Batista Fulgencio

Fulgencio Batista was a Cuban dictator who ruled Cuba twice. He was known for his unprincipled and corrupt methods of governing and was heavily supported by American capital. Batista served as a sergeant in the Cuban army and later co-led a conspiratorial organization called the "Military Union of Colombia." This union played a crucial role in the removal of the dictator Machado from power in August 1933. After Machado's ousting, Batista became the chief of staff and used his position to strengthen his own power. In 1934, he took control of the government and ruled through puppet governments until he was elected president in 1940. However, his presidency was marked by economic difficulties and the continued influence of American capital in Cuba. In 1952, Batista staged a coup and took power once again, ruling with an even stronger and more repressive hand. He aimed to suppress left-wing movements and maintain close ties with the United States during the Cold War. Batista's economic policies further strengthened American capital's control over the Cuban economy, leading to widespread discontent among the Cuban people. In 1959, he was overthrown by the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro.
