Early LifeBrenden Morrow, a Canadian professional ice hockey player, was born on January 16, 1979, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Career
He began his career with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League, playing for the team for four seasons. Morrow was then drafted in the first round, 25th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL Draft. In 1998, he helped his team reach the Memorial Cup championship.
As a forward for the Dallas Stars, Morrow consistently earned between 33 and 49 points each season, until his breakthrough in the 2005-2006 season when he accumulated 65 points. He also broke his own record for penalty minutes in a season, totaling 183. His ups and downs that season led to Morrow finishing sixth in the NHL rankings.
On September 29, 2006, Morrow became the new captain of the Dallas Stars. He signed a new six-year contract, and head coach Dave Tippett stated that it was time to expand Morrow's leadership role within the team.
Injuries and Achievements
In late December 2006, Morrow suffered a ruptured tendon in his right wrist during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He underwent successful surgery and was discharged from the Chicago hospital the following morning.
A peculiar incident occurred on May 2, 2008, during Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. Morrow scored three goals, two of which were disallowed, preventing him from achieving a hat-trick. However, on May 5, Morrow scored the game-winning goal in overtime during Game 6 of the same semifinals against the San Jose Sharks.
During a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on November 20, 2008, Morrow suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his right knee, forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2008-2009 season.
Personal Life
Morrow is the son-in-law of former Montreal Canadiens coach and former Dallas Stars member Guy Carbonneau. He married Carbonneau's daughter, Anne-Marie, on July 20, 2002. The couple has three children: a daughter named Brielle, born in 2004, and twins named Brady and Mallory, born on May 11, 2008.
On December 30, 2009, Morrow was selected to represent the Canadian ice hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
