Brian Greenhoff: A Legendary Footballer

Brian Greenhoff, an esteemed English footballer, embarked on his journey in the sport as a teenager with the Yorkshire Schoolboys. In August 1968, he joined the prestigious Manchester United Football Academy.

Debut and Triumph at Manchester United

Greenhoff's debut for Manchester United's senior team took place on September 8, 1973, against Ipswich Town. During his time at the club, he played a pivotal role in their 1977 FA Cup victory, forming a formidable defensive duo with Martin Buchan. Greenhoff made a total of 271 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 17 goals.

Brotherly Bonds and Leeds United

Greenhoff's brother, Jimmy Greenhoff, also played for Manchester United. In 1979, Brian made a transfer to Leeds United for a fee of £350,000. However, in 1982, Leeds was relegated from the First Division, prompting Greenhoff's departure as a free agent.

Rochdale and Retirement

He subsequently joined Rochdale, where his brother was appointed player-manager in 1983. Following Jimmy's dismissal in March 1984, Brian left Rochdale and retired from professional football.

International Career

Beyond his club accomplishments, Greenhoff represented England 18 times between 1976 and 1980.
