Biography of Caroline Zhang

Caroline Zhang is an American figure skater who competes in the ladies' singles category. She was born in Boston, but moved to California with her parents when she was very young. Zhang is of Chinese descent, and is known by her Chinese name, Yuanyuan (袁媛媛), in Chinese media. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Wuhan, China, and her older sister was born in China.

Zhang began skating at the age of five and quickly showed promise in the sport. In 2007, she won her first world junior championship, making a remarkable debut in international competition. In her first senior season in 2007-2008, Zhang qualified for the Grand Prix Final and finished in fourth place. She continued to excel in the sport and was ranked 30th by the International Skating Union (ISU) as of June 2011.

Zhang's love for reading is well-known among her coaches and teachers. They even consider taking away her books as the worst possible punishment. Her favorite book is the autobiography of Henry VIII.

In the 2008-2009 season, Zhang faced some setbacks. She failed to qualify for the Grand Prix Final after a disappointing performance in Canada, where she finished fifth. However, she redeemed herself at the U.S. Championships, winning a bronze medal. She also placed fourth at the Four Continents Championships.

At the World Junior Championships, Zhang, who was considered one of the favorites, had a mishap in the short program and found herself in 10th place, which was unusually low for her. However, she delivered a brilliant free skate, winning that portion of the competition and climbing up to second place overall.

In the summer of 2009, Zhang made a coaching change and started working with Charlene Wong, who also trains one of her main competitors, Mirai Nagasu.

Currently, Zhang and her family reside in Brea, California, where she trains at the East West Ice Palace, owned by Michelle Kwan's family. Despite the challenges she has faced, Zhang remains dedicated to her sport and continues to strive for success in figure skating.
