Cynthia Pratt: A Life of Service
From Teacher to Deputy Prime MinisterCynthia Pratt embarked on her political career as a physical education teacher. In 2002, she became Deputy Prime Minister under Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie after the Progressive Liberal Party's victory in the national elections.
Acting Prime Minister
In 2005, Pratt served as Acting Prime Minister from May 4 to June 22 while Christie suffered from a stroke. She ably fulfilled her duties during this challenging period.
Member of Parliament
Despite the Progressive Liberal Party's defeat in the 2007 general elections, Pratt was re-elected to parliament. She served diligently, representing her constituents' interests.
General Governor
Nomination and AppointmentIn August 2023, Prime Minister Philip Davis recommended that King Charles III appoint Pratt as the next Governor-General of The Bahamas. She was duly sworn in as the 12th Governor-General on September 1, 2023.
Inaugural Address
In her inaugural address, Pratt stated, "As a mother, my eyes and ears are ever open to the needs of our youth and the importance of doing all we can to uplift them, so that when the time comes for them to assume full responsibility for the continued development of our country, they are fully prepared."
