Biography of Diego Forlan
Diego Forlan is a Uruguayan football player and forward who currently plays for the Spanish club "Atletico Madrid" and the Uruguay national team. He is considered the best Uruguayan football player of the first decade of the 21st century.

Early Life and Family
Diego Forlan was born on May 19, 1979, in Montevideo, Uruguay. In his childhood, Forlan showed promise as a talented tennis player, but ultimately chose to pursue a career in football. His father, Pablo Forlan, was a player for the Uruguay national team in the 1966 World Cup in England and the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. His maternal grandfather, Juan Carlos Corazo, was a renowned Argentine footballer who played for the club "Independiente."
Career
Diego Forlan began his professional career with the club "Independiente," making his debut in the first team in 1998. In four seasons with the club, Forlan played 77 matches and scored 36 goals, attracting the attention of several European clubs. In January 2002, he signed a contract with "Manchester United" for a fee of 6.9 million pounds. He scored his first goal for the English club in August 2003 in a Champions League match against "Maccabi," and went on to win the Premier League title. However, after the signing of Wayne Rooney, Forlan was considered a reserve player and decided to leave the club. He played a total of 63 matches for "Manchester United," scoring 10 goals in the English Premier League.
Forlan then joined "Villarreal" for the 2004/05 season, where he became the top scorer of the Spanish La Liga with 25 goals and won the Golden Boot along with Thierry Henry. After three seasons with "Villarreal" (106 matches - 54 goals), Forlan attracted interest from several English clubs, including "Arsenal," "Liverpool," and "Aston Villa." However, he chose to stay in Spain. Before the 2007/08 season, Forlan transferred to "Atletico Madrid" for a fee of 21 million euros. He made his debut for the new club in a match against "Real Madrid," playing the full 90 minutes.
On May 12, 2010, Forlan scored two goals in the final of the UEFA Europa League, leading "Atletico Madrid" to victory and being named the best player of the match. He has been called up to the Uruguay national team since 2002. Forlan participated in the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, scoring 1 goal against Senegal, although Uruguay finished 3rd in their group and did not advance. In the semi-final of the 2007 Copa America against Brazil, Forlan came on as a substitute in the 35th minute but failed to convert a penalty in the shootout, resulting in a victory for Brazil.
At the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Forlan scored his first two goals of the tournament, opening the scoring with a long-range shot deflected off a defender's back in a match against the host team. He also converted a penalty for a handball by Luis Suarez. In the quarter-finals, Forlan scored his third goal of the tournament, a free-kick against Ghana.
