Eduard Heger: Slovakia's Prime Minister

Birth and Education

Eduard Heger was born on May 3, 1976, in Bratislava, Slovakia (then part of Czechoslovakia). He graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Economics in Bratislava, majoring in Commerce, Trade, and Marketing.

Early Career

After graduating, Heger worked in various roles, including as an assistant director at Intercomp Imex and a restaurant manager at Kohútik. He also gained experience in the financial sector as a sales manager for the European Investment Bank and as a junior consultant for Cubic Applications Inc.

Christian Involvement

At the age of 23, following the sudden death of his father, Heger turned to Christianity. He became actively involved in Christian organizations, representing Slovakia in the European Network of Christian Communities (ENC) and serving on its executive committee.

Political Career

Early Political Engagements

In 2016, Heger was elected to the National Council of Slovakia and later headed its parliamentary group.

Finance Minister and Acting Health Minister

After the 2020 parliamentary elections, he was appointed Minister of Finance in the government of Igor Matovič. In March 2021, he temporarily assumed the role of acting Minister of Health following the resignation of Marek Krajčí.

Prime Ministership

On March 30, 2021, President Zuzana Čaputová appointed Heger to form a new government, which was subsequently approved on April 1.

Fall of the Government

On December 15, 2022, the Slovak parliament passed a no-confidence motion against Heger's government. As a result, Heger is expected to leave office.

Personal Life

Heger is a father of four children.
