Biography of Eric Radford

Eric Radford is a Canadian figure skater specializing in pairs skating. With his partner, Meagan Duhamel, he has earned the title of best pairs figure skater in Canada and one of the best in the world. They have won bronze medals twice at the World Championships, three times at the Canadian Championships, and once at the Four Continents Championships.

Early Life and Career

Radford was born and raised in Balmertown, Ontario. He began skating at the age of eight and initially competed in pairs skating with Sarah Burke. Together, they participated in the ISU Grand Prix in 2003 and 2004, finishing 6th and 5th respectively. Radford also attempted singles skating and faced a challenging incident at the 2005 Canadian Championships when he got stuck in an elevator on his way to the qualifying games. However, he managed to free himself and arrived on time to compete.

Partnerships and Success

In 2005, Radford teamed up with Rachel Kirkland and they achieved 5th place at the Canadian Championships in 2007. They tried again to win the national title in 2009 but only placed 7th. The partnership ended, and Radford returned to Montreal to skate with Anne-Marie Giroux. Unfortunately, they only achieved 8th place at the 2010 Canadian Championships.

Upon the advice of their coach, Radford decided to try skating with Meagan Duhamel. They quickly formed a successful partnership, winning the silver medal at the 2011 Canadian Championships. During the short program at the following World Championships, Duhamel accidentally hit Radford's nose with her elbow, causing him to bleed. Despite the injury, Radford decided to continue the performance, and they completed their routine flawlessly.

Continued Success

In the 2011-2012 season, Radford and Duhamel won bronze medals at two ISU Grand Prix events, Skate Canada and Trophée Eric Bompard. They then returned to the Canadian Championships, where they achieved a brilliant victory. At the World Championships, they finished in 5th place. The 2012-2013 season also brought success, with two silver medals at the Grand Prix events and victories at the Canadian Championships and Four Continents Championships. They won bronze at the 2013 World Championships in London, Ontario.

Olympic and World Championships

In 2014, Radford composed music for their short program. At the Sochi Olympics, they placed 7th, but at the World Championships, they once again won bronze, setting personal records in both the short and free programs.

Coaching and Personal Life

In addition to his skating career, Radford is involved in coaching during his free time. He remains a respected and accomplished figure skater, known for his unique harmony with his partners and his dedication to his sport.
