Georg Hund von Wenneckheim was a prominent figure in the history of the Teutonic Order, serving as the 40th Grand Master from 1566 to 1572.

Early Life and Entry into the Order

Born into an ancient Franconian noble family, Wenneckheim joined the Teutonic Order in 1544. He initially served in Heilbronn before becoming the commander of Weissenburg in 1553 and Frankfurt am Main in 1558.

Rise to Grand Mastership

Prior to his election as Grand Master in 1566, Wenneckheim held the position of Landkomtur of the Franconian bailliwick within the Order. In addition to his service within the Order, he was an advisor to Emperor Maximilian II and held various imperial offices.

Reign as Grand Master

During his tenure as Grand Master, Wenneckheim focused heavily on planning and constructing the Order's castle in Mergentheim. He passed away in 1572 and was laid to rest in the castle church.
