Early Life and Career
Born in Budapest, Kertész began his footballing career at the illustrious Ferencváros club. His exceptional skills earned him the moniker "Kertész IV" to distinguish him from his three brothers, all of whom were also footballers but unrelated by blood.
Journey to Italy
In 1925, Kertész embarked on a journey that would shape his career. He moved to Italy, becoming a player for Spezia and Carrarese. While his playing career in Italy was notable, it was his coaching that truly left an indelible mark.
Coaching Successes
Kertész took the reins of several Italian clubs, including Salernitana, Catania, Atalanta, Lazio, and Roma. His most notable achievement was guiding Lazio to a fourth-place finish in the 1939/1940 Serie A season.
Return to Budapest
The outbreak of World War II forced Kertész to return to his hometown, Budapest. There, he became the coach of Újpest.

Tragedy struck a year after Kertész's departure from Újpest. In an act of solidarity and defiance against the Nazi regime, he provided refuge to a Jewish individual in his home. This courageous act resulted in his arrest and eventual execution.
