Gylfi Sigurðsson is an Icelandic football player who currently plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Everton and the Iceland national team. Born and raised in Iceland, Sigurðsson began his football career with local clubs before signing his first professional contract with English club Reading. Despite making 43 appearances and scoring 19 goals for Reading, he struggled to establish himself in the first team and spent two seasons on loan at Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra.

International Debut and Move to Hoffenheim

In 2010, Sigurðsson joined German club Hoffenheim, where he remained for two years before moving on loan to Welsh club Swansea City in 2012. He made his Swansea debut in the FA Cup against Barnsley and quickly became a key player for the club, scoring seven goals in his first 13 Premier League appearances. In March 2012, he became the first Swansea player to be named Premier League Player of the Month.

Record-Breaking Move to Tottenham

In July 2012, Sigurðsson signed a four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £7.5 million. He spent two seasons with Tottenham, making 58 Premier League appearances and scoring 8 goals. He also played 20 matches in European competitions, scoring three goals.

Return to Swansea

In July 2014, Swansea City re-signed Sigurðsson for a club-record fee of €10 million. He returned to the club on a four-year contract and scored 7 goals in 32 appearances during the 2014/15 season. In the 2015/16 season, he scored 11 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

Transfer to Everton

In August 2017, Sigurðsson joined Everton for a fee of £45 million, signing a contract until 2022. He made his debut as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City and scored his first goal for Everton in a Europa League match against Hajduk Split.

International Recognition

Sigurðsson has represented Iceland at both the youth and senior levels. He has made over 70 appearances for the national team, scoring 25 goals. He played a key role in Iceland's historic run to the quarter-finals of the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
