Early Life and Education
Igor Dodon was born on February 18, 1975, in the village of Sadova, Calarasi district, Moldovan SSR. He graduated with a degree in Economics from the State Agrarian University, a Master's degree in Management from the Moldovan Academy of Economic Knowledge, and a PhD in Economic Law from the International Institute of Management.

Political Career
Minister of Economy and TradeDodon began his political career in May 2005, serving as Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade until September 2006. He was then appointed Minister of Economy and Trade by President Vladimir Voronin. In 2008, he became First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade.

Member of Parliament
In 2009, Dodon was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM). He resigned in September 2009 due to the incompatibility between the positions of MP and minister.

Dodon was re-elected to Parliament in 2010 and served on the parliamentary commission for economy, budget, and finance. In 2011, he ran as the PCRM candidate for mayor of Chisinau but lost to Dorin Chirtoaca.
Founder of the Party of Socialists
In November 2011, Dodon left the PCRM and co-founded the Party of Socialists (PSRM). He was elected chairman of the party at its 10th congress in December 2011.
Presidential Candidate and Election
In 2016, Dodon was nominated as the PSRM candidate for the presidential election. He won the second round with 52.27% of the vote, becoming the third popularly elected president of Moldova.
