Ivan Fedorovich Dremov
Early Life and Military CareerIvan Fedorovich Dremov was born on October 15, 1901, in Ishkovka village, Ivanteevsky district, Saratov Oblast. He completed his primary education and worked as a shepherd and blacksmith's apprentice before joining the Soviet Army in 1919. In 1925, he graduated from the Infantry School in Smolensk and later attended the M.V. Frunze Military Academy in 1938.
World War II
During the Great Patriotic War, Dremov fought on various fronts, including the Western, Kalinin, 1st Ukrainian, and 1st Belorussian fronts. He served as a regiment commander, brigade commander, division commander, and corps commander. Dremov participated in defensive battles near Smolensk, Rzhev, and Kalinin, the Soviet counteroffensive near Moscow, the Battle of Kursk, and the liberation of Ukraine and Poland. He was wounded twice and concussed three times.
Hero of the Soviet Union
On April 26, 1944, Dremov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, the Order of Lenin, and the Gold Star medal for his skillful leadership during the Dniester River crossing, capture, and defense of a bridgehead on the river's southwest bank.
Post-War Career
After the war, Dremov graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff in 1949. He commanded a military formation and retired in 1958 with the rank of Lieutenant General of Tank Forces. Dremov lived in Dnipropetrovsk and died on September 2, 1983.
