Early Life and Career
Born on September 22, 1939, in the Poltava region of Ukraine to a peasant family, the political and statesman embarked on his career in 1956 as an instructor for the Grebenkiv District Committee of the Komsomol (Young Communist League).
Education and Accounting Experience
In 1958, he pursued a degree in accounting and economics at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy. Upon graduating in 1963, he worked as an accountant for the "Hlybokyi" collective farm in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region.
Rise in Agriculture
Over the next decade, he held various leadership positions within the agricultural sector, including Director of the Kyiv Poultry Farm (1971-1977), Director of the Yahotyn Poultry Farm (1977), and Director of the "Kalytyansky" collective farm-combine (1977).
Political Engagement and Parliamentary Career
Despite a brief expulsion from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), he was later reinstated and eventually resigned from the party in 1990. That same year, he was elected to the first Ukrainian Supreme Council (later known as the Verkhovna Rada) from the Brovary electoral district, where he served on the commission for the Chernobyl disaster.
Governor of Kyiv Oblast
In 1992, he was appointed Governor (Representative of the President of Ukraine) for Kyiv Oblast, a position he held until 1995.
Later Career and Recognition
After leaving public office, he became President of the Kyiv Poultry Farm Corporation. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the First Rank of State Servant (1994), the Honored Worker of Agriculture of Ukraine (1999), and the Order of Merit, 3rd Class (2011).
