Early Life and EducationBoris Kuzmich Komzin was born in the Soviet Union in 1908. In 1926, he graduated from the Moscow Construction Technical School and later from the Moscow Higher Engineering and Construction College in 1930. Komzin also undertook training in Germany.
Construction Leadership
Military and Naval ConstructionIn 1938, Komzin became the head of the Main Construction Department of the People's Commissariat of Heavy Machine Building. From 1940, he served as the head of the construction project for the Tallinn Port. As a military engineer, Komzin participated in the Great Patriotic War.
Post-War Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development
After the war, Komzin was appointed deputy People's Commissar for the construction of naval facilities. Later, he headed the department for the restoration and construction of the city of Sevastopol.
"Kuibyshevgidrostroi" and the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station
In 1950, Komzin became the head of the "Kuibyshevgidrostroi" construction department. Under his leadership, the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station named after V.I. Lenin was built between 1950 and 1958.
Aswan High Dam and International Collaborations
Komzin served as the chief Soviet expert for the construction of the Aswan High Dam in Egypt in 1959. He also participated in the construction of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant, a textile factory, and a thermal power plant in Turkey.
Academic Career and Administrative Roles
From 1962, Komzin held a professorship at the Moscow Engineering and Construction Institute. He served as the head of the Main Hydroelectric Construction Department (1963) and the director of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for Construction (1968).
Legacy and Recognition
Boris Kuzmich Komzin was a prominent figure in Soviet construction and energy industries. He supervised the construction of numerous hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants, and industrial facilities. He received the title of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1958 and was recognized with the title of Honored Builder of the RSFSR. Komzin passed away in 1983 and is buried in the Peredelkino district near Moscow.
