Early Life and Youth Career
Born in Azerbaijan, Rashad Sadygov commenced his football journey at the tender age of 10 at the Republican Olympic Sports Lyceum in Baku under the tutelage of coach Rakhman Tagiyev. He represented Azerbaijan's under-19 national team before making his debut for the senior side in 2008.
Professional Career
Sadygov began his professional career with Turan Tovuz in the Azerbaijan Premier League. Subsequent stints followed with Olimpik Baku and Inter Baku, where he featured prominently in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in 2008 and 2009.
In 2012, he ventured into Turkish football with Adana Demirspor in the 1.Lig. However, he returned to Baku midway through the 2012/13 season. From 2014 onwards, Gabala became his club of choice.
Murder Investigation and Trial
On 11 August 2015, Sadygov faced serious allegations. He was charged and arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder of journalist Rasim Aliyev. Aliyev had criticized Sadygov on Facebook after an Europa League match where the latter waved the Turkish flag and made offensive gestures. Aliyev was assaulted and later died from his injuries. Following the incident, Sadygov was suspended from Gabala's first-team, while his cousin Elshan Ismaylov was arrested as the prime suspect.
On 31 May 2016, Sadygov was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the killing.
National Team Career
Sadygov made his debut for the Azerbaijan national team on 4 June 2008 in a friendly against Andorra. He has also represented his country at the youth level.
Achievements
During his club career, Sadygov secured two Azerbaijan Premier League runner-up medals with Olimpik Baku (2007/08) and Inter Baku (2008/09).
