Early Career and Miss Hong Kong VictoryKaiyi Cheung, born in Hong Kong, began her beauty pageant journey in 2005 at the Miss Chinese (Vancouver) Pageant. While not placing in the top three, she received the "Miss Vivacious Beauty" award. In 2007, she returned to Hong Kong and entered the prestigious Miss Hong Kong pageant.
Cheung's unexpected victory in Miss Hong Kong sparked controversy. Unlike the previous Miss Hong Kong winners, she was considered an underdog and her win was met with skepticism. Critics argued that the runner-up, Grace Wong, who won "Miss Photogenic" and "Miss International Goodwill," deserved the crown.
Controversy and Miss World Accomplishments
Despite the initial resistance, Cheung persisted and represented Hong Kong at Miss World 2007. She placed within the Top 16 and became the first Miss Hong Kong to win the "Beauty With A Purpose" award, which recognized her work with the Wai Yin Association, a charity founded by former Miss Hong Kong contestants.
Miss Chinese International and Beyond
Cheung continued her pageant streak in 2008 by participating in Miss Chinese International. Again, she defied expectations and placed second, facing accusations of favoritism due to her mediocre performance compared to the other highly qualified contestants.
Post-Pageant Career
After her pageant career, Cheung expressed an interest in transitioning into television and promoting healthy living. She has largely withdrawn from the modeling industry and focused on advocating for well-being.
