Early Career and Success
Klaus Allofs, a German footballer, began his professional career in 1975 with Fortuna Düsseldorf. Initially playing as an attacking midfielder, he racked up nearly 100 appearances, guiding the club to two consecutive German Cup victories.
Bundesliga Top Scorer
In the 1978-79 season, Allofs emerged as the Bundesliga's top scorer. He also made a significant impact in the Cup Winners' Cup, scoring four goals in eight games and helping Düsseldorf reach the final, where they ultimately lost to Barcelona.
Köln and European Nights
In 1981, Allofs joined 1. FC Köln, continuing his impressive goalscoring prowess. However, his time at the club was marred by a disappointing 1985-86 season, where he scored only seven goals in the league and nine in the UEFA Cup, as Köln lost the final to Real Madrid.
International Fame
Allofs made his international debut in 1978 and went on to represent West Germany 56 times, scoring 17 goals. He was the top scorer at the 1980 European Championship, contributing three goals, all of which came in a group stage match against the Netherlands.
Later Years and Coaching
Allofs spent three seasons with Werder Bremen, where he capped his career with a 2-0 victory over Monaco in the 1991-92 Cup Winners' Cup final. Retiring at the age of 37, he had amassed 424 league appearances and 177 goals.
In 1999, Allofs returned to Fortuna Düsseldorf as interim general manager and coach. He subsequently joined Werder Bremen in an executive role and has remained their general manager to this day.
