Early Life and Family

Lauren Boebert was born on December 19, 1986, in Altamonte Springs, Florida, just north of Orlando. Her father, Bob Boebert, wanted her mother, Shawn Bentz, to have an abortion after learning about her pregnancy. Despite his wishes, Shawn chose to keep the unborn child.

At the age of 18, Lauren dropped out of high school to focus on raising her daughter. For the first four years of her life, she and her mother lived with her grandparents. Shawn eventually met a man from Colorado who was visiting her friend and they began a relationship. Shawn and Lauren moved to Aurora, Colorado with him.

Despite her pleas for help, Lauren's grandparents insisted that Shawn return to Florida. Her stepfather, Mike, begged her to stay, promising to change his ways. As a result, the family remained in Colorado. Soon after, Lauren's brother Benjamin (Benny) was born. However, Mike's behavior had worsened by that time. He drank heavily and often missed work.

Instead of leaving, Shawn became pregnant with two more sons. The family soon moved to Montbello, one of Denver's poorest neighborhoods, and struggled to make ends meet. Mike rarely worked, and they relied heavily on government assistance.

Education and Employment

During her school years, Lauren listened to rap music and participated in rap battles. She had a fiery temper and was involved in school fights. Meanwhile, Mike had a moment of self-realization. A friend who had found work in Aspen offered to get him a job there. Shawn urged Mike to take the offer, and he soon began working. The family left Montbello and moved to Rifle, about an hour and a half from Aspen.

Lauren attended a new school and joined the cheerleading squad. At the age of 15, she got a job at McDonald's. Due to age restrictions, she could only work a few hours a week: weekday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and six-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.

Lauren was eventually offered a job at Burger King, which paid 25 cents more per hour than McDonald's. She accepted the offer and began working in the drive-thru. She later returned to McDonald's and became a shift manager, earning over $40,000 per year. Despite her success, she dropped out of high school. She briefly attended management courses and considered attending Hamburger University.

After meeting her future husband Jason, Lauren often helped him on the oil rig where he worked. She eventually left McDonald's and took a job with a large natural gas producer in nearby Parachute. After working in the office for about a year, she asked for a job in the field. She spent her first week pumping wells and later worked on locating pipelines using locators. In 2008, she left the energy industry and became a stay-at-home mom.

Religious and Political Journey

In early 2010, Lauren became involved in evangelical Christianity. She was appointed the Garfield County jail chaplain that year. She preached the love of God to inmates during weekly visits and held the position for seven years.

In 2012, the Cowboy Calf-A restaurant closed down in downtown Rifle. Lauren and Jason decided to buy the establishment from the owner. They remodeled the restaurant, giving it a Western-themed ambiance and renaming it Shooters Grill. It opened its doors in May 2013.

In August of the same year, an incident occurred near Shooters Grill in which a man was allegedly beaten to death (some reports suggest he died from a drug overdose). As a result, Boebert armed herself with a Taurus Judge revolver and allowed several of her restaurant staff to carry firearms.

Shooters Grill and National Attention

In July 2014, ABC's "Nightline" aired a segment on Shooters Grill, which garnered nearly 4.5 million views on YouTube. In 2015, the restaurant's menu was featured at the annual Country Jam music festival.

In September 2019, Boebert made national headlines when she confronted Democrat Beto O'Rourke at a town hall event in Aurora over his proposal for an AR-15 and AK-47 buyback program. Later that month, she spoke out against a measure to ban guns in city buildings at an Aspen City Council meeting.

Congressional Campaign and Election

In November 2019, Boebert announced her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives, vowing to defend the Second Amendment if elected. She aligned herself with the views of former President Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Jason and Lauren's uncle supported her bid for Congress, but local political figures were skeptical. Many believed she should start her political career at the local level.
