Early Career

Born in Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia, Mitchell made her debut at the senior level in 2007, winning the national championship on the balance beam. At the 2007 World Championships, she finished fifth on the balance beam, equaling the Australian record set by Monette Russo.

Commonwealth Games and World Championship Triumph

Mitchell achieved great success at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, winning gold medals in the team, all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam events. She also won a silver medal in the floor exercise. Later that year, she became the first Australian gymnast to win gold at the World Championships, triumphing in the floor exercise.

National Champion and Olympic Qualification

In 2011, Mitchell began the year with some disappointing performances but rebounded to win four gold medals at the national championships. She competed at the World Championships in Tokyo, where she defended her gold medal in the floor exercise.

In 2012, Mitchell won two more gold medals at the national championships, in the floor exercise and balance beam. She qualified for the Australian Olympic team and finished fifth in the floor exercise at the London Olympics.
