Early Life and Education

Sigrid Kaag was born on May 13, 1983, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. She attended Erasmus Rotterdam Gymnasium from 1995 to 2001. From 2002 to 2006, she earned a bachelor's degree in Communication Science from the University of Amsterdam. She spent one semester in 2006 at the California State University, San Francisco. Continuing her studies at the University of Amsterdam from 2006 to 2008, she obtained a master's degree in Communication Science. In 2007, she spent a semester at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris. From 2009 to 2012, she pursued a bachelor's degree in Law at the University of Amsterdam. In 2014-2015, she obtained a master's degree in Civil Law from Leiden University.

Professional Career

Kaag's professional career spans various sectors. from 2009 to 2012, she served as a personal assistant to members of the House of Representatives from the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). From 2012 to 2016, she worked as a policy assistant at the Dutch Ministry of Defense. Subsequently, she completed internships at law firms Pels Rijcken & Droogleever Fortuijn (2016-2018) and Croon advocaten (2018-2019).

Political Career

In the 2019 European Parliament election, Kaag was elected as an MEP for the VVD. She served as a member of the Renew Europe Group. On January 10, 2022, she was appointed Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position she currently holds.
