Ignazio Abate is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Serie A club AC Milan and the Italy national team.
Early Life and Career
Ignazio Abate was born on November 12, 1986, in Sant'Agata de' Goti, Italy. His father, Roberto Abate, was also a footballer. Ignazio joined AC Milan's youth academy in 2003 and made his debut for the first team on December 23, 2006, in a Serie A match against Udinese.
Club Career
Abate spent the majority of his career at AC Milan, making over 300 appearances for the club. He won two Serie A titles, a Supercoppa Italiana, and a UEFA Champions League title with Milan. In January 2011, Abate was transferred to Genoa as part of a swap deal with Mathieu Flamini. He returned to AC Milan in the summer of 2013.
International Career
Ignazio Abate made his debut for the Italy national team on September 3, 2010, in a Euro 2012 qualifying match against Estonia. He has since earned over 20 caps for his country. Abate was part of the Italy squad that won the bronze medal at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
