Biography of Mamady Doumbouya
Early Life and Military CareerMamady Doumbouya was born in the Kankan region of Guinea. He served as a French Legionnaire before returning to Guinea to lead an elite military unit, the Special Forces Group, under President Alpha Condé.
The 2021 Guinean Coup
In September 2021, Doumbouya led a military coup that overthrew President Condé. He announced the suspension of the constitution, dissolved the government, and closed Guinea's borders.
National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD)
Doumbouya established the CNRD to justify the coup, citing political unrest, corruption, and the failure of the previous government.
Transitional Presidency
On October 1, 2021, Doumbouya was sworn in as the interim President of Guinea. As President, he pledged to establish a new constitution and hold free and fair elections.
