Marc Bernaus: A Talented Andorran Defender
Born in Andorra, Marc Bernaus is a renowned defender who made his mark in both club and international football. His journey began in the prestigious youth academy of FC Barcelona, where he quickly rose through the ranks.
Barcelona and Early Promise
During the mid-1990s, Bernaus was hailed as one of Europe's most promising young talents. In 1995, he joined FC Barcelona's youth team and in 1997, under the guidance of Coach Bobby Robson, he made his debut for the senior team in the Copa Catalunya against Europa.
Club Career: Spain and Beyond
Following his brief stint at Barcelona, Bernaus embarked on a club career that spanned various Spanish clubs. He played for Toledo, Terrassa, and Gimnàstic de Tarragona before joining Las Palmas in 2002. However, his stay at Las Palmas was short-lived, and in 2003, he moved to Getafe.
Bernaus played a pivotal role in Getafe's promotion to La Liga during the 2003/2004 season. Despite his contributions, he left the club in 2004 to join Elche. He spent three years with Elche, making 92 appearances. Later, he played for Polideportivo and, since 2008, has been a member of Girona FC.
International Career: Andorra
Bernaus made his international debut for Andorra in 2000 and has since earned 32 caps. He scored his only international goal on October 13, 2004, in a 1-0 home victory against Macedonia. This historic victory was only the third win in Andorra's history and their first in an official tournament.
Additional Accolades
In addition to his club and international appearances, Bernaus also represented Spain at the under-20 level in the 1997 World Cup held in Malaysia. Spain reached the Round of 16, where they lost to Ireland. Bernaus played in all five matches of the tournament.
