Mary Hart was born on November 8, 1950, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, and spent her childhood and teenage years there and in Denmark. In 1970, she participated in the Miss America pageant, winning the title of Miss South Dakota and making it to the top ten finalists. Two years later, Hart graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls and became a producer and host of her own talk show on a cable channel. Subsequently, Mary obtained jobs in Iowa and Oklahoma and became a co-host of the television show "Dannysday" alongside Danny Williams.
Television Career
Mary's television career began at KMTV-TV in Omaha. But after "Dannysday," determined to leave journalism behind, Hart moved to Westwood, a neighborhood in the outskirts of Los Angeles, in 1979 with $10,000 in her bank account. She landed a small role on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives" and appeared in several commercials. Starting her breakthrough, Hart became the co-host of the local Los Angeles program "PM Magazine," which led her to be a co-host again, but this time on Regis Philbin's first national talk show in 1981. Four months later, the talk show was canceled, and the well-known show "Entertainment Tonight" interviewed Hart, where she shared her feelings about this unfortunate event. The next day after the interview, Mary was hired as a correspondent for "Entertainment Tonight," and after 13 weeks, she was introduced as a co-host of the same show alongside Ron Hendren.
The Famous Legs
Mary's shapely legs played a crucial role in securing a contract with the company "Hanes" for her own line of pantyhose in 1987. She always wore this brand during the show "Entertainment Tonight." American producer and manager Jay Bernstein insured her legs for $1 million each. In 1991, the medical journal "New England" reported that Hart's voice triggered a seizure in a woman with epilepsy. This fact was later used in an episode of the animated series "Tiny Toon Adventures" and the sitcom "Seinfeld." In the sitcom episode, actor Michael Richards starts convulsing when he hears Mary Hart's voice.
Personal Life
Hart is fluent in Swedish and Danish, practices Judaism, and is a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. She was married to Terry Hart from 1972 to 1979. The renowned host currently resides in a wealthy part of Los Angeles with her husband, film producer Bert Sugarman, and their son.
