Early Life and Revolutionary InvolvementMatteo Renato Imbriani was born on November 28, 1843, in Naples. During the transformative period of the 1850s and 1860s, he joined the armed forces of Giuseppe Garibaldi, a prominent figure in the Italian unification movement.
Foundation of L’Italia degli Italiani and Pro Patria
In 1878, Imbriani collaborated with other like-minded individuals, including Bovio, to establish the irredentist organization. This organization sought to reunite Italian-speaking territories under a single nation. The group published the newspaper "L’Italia degli Italiani" to advocate for their cause.
Responding to the pro-Austrian publication "Italicae Res" by Count Gyula Andrássy, Imbriani, Bovio, and General Mezzacapo released the book "Pro Patria." This publication denounced Austrian influence in Italian territories. From 1881 to 1884, Imbriani edited a newspaper in Naples bearing the same title, which vehemently opposed Austrian rule.
Political Career and Legacy
From 1889 onwards, Imbriani served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies representing the "Extreme Left" party. His unwavering commitment to Italian reunification and his journalistic contributions made him a respected figure in the political landscape.
Imbriani passed away on September 13, 1901, in San Martino Valle Caudina. His legacy as a journalist, politician, and advocate for Italian unity continues to inspire generations.
