Early Life and Military Career
Birth and FamilyBorn in 1799, Maurice Félix Berthier was the son of French nobility. Due to revolutionary events, his father emigrated to Russia, where Berthier swore allegiance as a Russian subject.
Entry into the Russian Army
In 1818, Berthier's father secured his entry as a cadet into the Leib-Guard Uhlan Regiment. His diligence and military knowledge earned him promotions to second lieutenant in 1819 and lieutenant in 1823.
Polish Campaign and Distinctions
Participation in the CampaignBerthier participated in the Polish campaign of 1830-1831 against the rebellious Poles. His distinction in battle earned him numerous awards:

Colonel and Beyond
Berthier rose to colonel in 1838. In 1840, he received the Order of St. George, 4th Class. The following year, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, 3rd Class.

Command of Mitausky Hussar RegimentOn September 20, 1844, Berthier took command of the Mitausky Hussar Regiment.
Commander of Leib-Guard Uhlan Regiment
On October 8, 1847, Berthier was appointed commander of the Leib-Guard Uhlan Regiment. He was promoted to major general on December 6, 1847.
Death and Legacy
Untimely DemiseBerthier passed away prematurely on January 12, 1849, in Wilkōmir, Poland. He was posthumously removed from the military lists on January 14.
