Early Life and Education

Born in Serbia, Milutin Mrkonjić embarked on his academic journey at the University of Belgrade, where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in civil engineering, specializing in road, airport, and railway construction.

Career in Infrastructure

Following his graduation, Mrkonjić became the inaugural director of the Institute of Transportation (CIP). He showcased his expertise in infrastructure management as the head of the reconstruction team for the Agency after the 1999 NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Political Ambitions

Mrkonjić co-founded the Socialist Party of Serbia alongside Slobodan Milošević. In 2008, he ran for the presidency, using the campaign slogans "Achievements Speak for Themselves" and "Our Comrade!" He placed fourth, garnering 5.97% of the vote.

Ministerial Experience

On May 8, 2007, Mrkonjić was elected Vice President of the National Assembly of Serbia. The following year, he assumed the role of Minister of Infrastructure in the Serbian government on July 7, 2008. His portfolio expanded on March 14, 2011, when he became Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.
