Early Football Career

Mirko Jozić began his football career as a player, representing several modest Yugoslav clubs, including Tekstilac Derventa, Split, Belišće, and Junak Sinj.

Coaching Successes

Jozić's coaching career reached significant milestones, including:

- 1987:Guiding the Yugoslavia U-21 team to victory in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Chile. The team featured future world-renowned players such as Predrag Mijatović, Robert Prosinečki, Zvonimir Boban, Davor Šuker, Igor Štimac, and Robert Jarni.

- 1989-1993:Coaching Colo-Colo in Chile, leading the team to their historic victory in the Copa Libertadores in 1991. It remains the only time a Chilean club has won this prestigious continental tournament. In an ironic twist, Colo-Colo faced Yugoslav powerhouse Red Star Belgrade in the Intercontinental Cup final, which they lost.

- 2002:Managing the Croatian national team at the FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
