Early Life and Zionist Activism

Moshe Sharett was born in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Russian Empire (now Poland) in 1894. He pursued higher education in law at Warsaw University, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Zionist organization Ha-Shomer Ha-Tzair in Poland. His passion for the Zionist cause led him to immigrate to Palestine in 1920.

Kibbutz Leader and Labor Movement Activist

Upon arriving in Palestine, Sharett continued his education in law in Jerusalem. He also became deeply involved in the kibbutz movement, co-founding Mishmar Ha-Emek in northern Israel. As a representative of Ha-Shomer Ha-Tzair, he played an active role in the Histadrut labor union and the World Zionist Organization.

Independence and Political Career

Sharett was among the 37 signatories to Israel's Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948. He was subsequently elected to the first Knesset as a member of the Mapai party, and served in various electoral terms. During the 2nd Knesset, he chaired the Committee on Economic Affairs.

Ministerial Posts

Sharett held several ministerial positions in Israeli governments. He served as Minister of Development in the 7th, 8th, and 9th governments and as Minister of Housing in the 13th and 14th governments.
