Mukhtar Gasimov: National Hero of Azerbaijan
Early Life and EducationBorn on January 10, 1958, in the Beylagan region, Mukhtar Gasimov showed a passion for medicine from a young age. In 1975, he graduated from Agdam Secondary School No. 5 and enrolled in the Azerbaijan Medical University. He excelled in his studies and graduated in 1981 with a medical degree.
Career as a Doctor
After completing his medical education, Gasimov dedicated his life to serving his community. For seven years, he worked as a doctor in Stepanakert and later in the Aghdam City Hospital. His compassionate and dedicated service earned him the respect and admiration of his patients.
Commitment to the Front
When the Khojaly tragedy occurred, Gasimov immediately responded by volunteering his services on the front lines. As a military doctor, he played a crucial role in the battles for the villages of Aranzamin, Pirjamal, and Aghbulag in June 1992.
Tragic Demise
On June 16, 1992, while performing his duties in the village of Naxichevanik, Gasimov was fatally wounded. His untimely death left the nation in mourning, but his legacy lives on.
National Heroism
In recognition of his exceptional bravery and selfless service, President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev posthumously awarded Mukhtar Gasimov the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan on February 5, 1993. He was laid to rest at the Alley of Martyrs in Baku, where his memory is honored by countless visitors.
