Early Life and EducationMukhtar Shakhanovich Auezov, born on January 1, 1943, was a prominent Kazakh public figure and son of renowned writer Mukhtar Auezov. A graduate of the Institute of Oriental Languages at Moscow State University (1965), he specialized in Chinese philology and obtained a PhD in philological sciences in 1969.
Career Highlights
Auezov held various prestigious positions throughout his career. He served as the Director of the Department of History and Theory of Culture at the Scientific Center for Cultural Studies (1995-1998), Executive Director and President of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan (1999-2003), and General Director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2003-2007). From 2007 onwards, he became President of the Mukhtar Auezov Fund.
Diplomatic and Political Roles
Auezov embarked on a diplomatic career, serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the People's Republic of China from 1992 to 1995. He was also elected to the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR (1990-1991) and served as Chairman of the Supreme Council Committee on Foreign Relations and Interparliamentary Relations (1991-1992).
Academic and Cultural Contributions
A prolific author, Auezov published over 200 works on the theory and practice of artistic processes. His notable monographs include "The Interlinking Thread of Time" (1972) and "Hippocrathia: Journeys to the Wells of Time" (1997). Auezov was a key figure in the establishment of organizations such as the non-formal youth movement "Zhas Tulpar" (1963-1966), the Public Foundation "Public Defense" (2001), the "Planet Eye" festival in Bishkek (2003), and the Public Association "Rukh-Miras."

Auezov was widely recognized for his achievements. He received the title of Honored Worker of Kazakhstan (2001) and was awarded the Orders of "Barys" (1st degree), "Parasat," and "Kurmet."
