Pyotr Parfenovich Vladimirov: A Renowned Diplomat, Journalist, and Intelligence Officer
Pyotr Parfenovich Vladimirov (1905-1953) was a distinguished figure who played pivotal roles as a diplomat, journalist, and intelligence officer.
Early Life and Career
Vladimirov was born in 1905 and embarked on his working life as a metalworker apprentice in Voronezh. He later became a skilled mechanic at a locomotive repair plant in Tikhoretsk. In 1927, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolsheviks).
Military and Diplomatic Service
From 1931, Vladimirov served in the Soviet Army. Upon completing his military duty, he pursued higher education at the Narimanov Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies.
In 1938, he was deployed to China as a TASS correspondent and remained there until mid-1940. He returned to China from April to August 1941 on a TASS assignment.
In May 1942, Vladimirov was assigned to Yan'an, the Special Zone, as a Comintern liaison to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He simultaneously served as a TASS war correspondent. He resided there until November 1945.
Diplomatic Career
In 1946, Vladimirov joined the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Consul General of the USSR in Shanghai from 1948 to 1951. In 1952, he was appointed Ambassador of the USSR to Burma.
Personal Life and Death
Vladimirov was the father of world champion weightlifter Yuri Vlasov. He passed away in Moscow on September 10, 1953, following an arduous illness.
