Biography of Renārs Kaupers

Renārs Kaupers, born on September 1, 1974, in Jelgava, Latvia, is a Latvian singer, leader, and vocalist of the Latvian rock band Brainstorm (Prāta Vētra). He comes from a family of Isidors and Mudite Kaupers, with Latgalian roots. Kaupers completed his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Latvia in 1996.

Music Career

In 2000, Brainstorm achieved third place in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "My Star." In 2003, Kaupers co-hosted Eurovision in Riga with the previous year's winner, Marie N. He also hosted the television show "Congratulations" in 2005, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Eurovision. Kaupers has been actively involved in the music scene in Latvia and has contributed as a performer and songwriter to various projects.

Acting Career

Kaupers has also pursued an acting career. In 2000, he played the lead role in the film "Mystery of the Old Parish" directed by Janis Streics and received the prestigious Latvian film award, the Great Kristaps, for Best Actor of the Year. He also had a supporting role in the 2006 film "Georg" about opera singer Georg Ots.

Other Involvements

Kaupers has been a recurring member of the jury for the KVN festival "Golosyashchiy KiVIn" in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009. In 2007, he collaborated with Evgeny Grishkovts and the band "Bigudi" to record a cover of the song "Na Zare." In 2014, Kaupers joined Zemfira and her project The Uchpochmack for performances at the "Svoy Subbotnik" festival and the main Russian electronic music and technology festival, Alfa Future People.

Personal Life

Since 1995, Kaupers has been married to artist and stylist Agnese Kaupere. They have three sons, twins Edgars and Emil, born on September 8, 1995, and Aaron, born on July 13, 2011.

In September 2019, Kaupers participated as both a musician and actor in the children's theatrical production "Smieklu sasaukšanās" at the Ventspils Theatre in Valmiera.
