Early Life and Education

Renata Indzhova was born on July 6, 1953, in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. After completing her education in political economy at the Karl Marx Higher Institute of Economics in 1975, she began her career in academia.

Beginnings in Politics

During the early 1990s, Indzhova emerged as an economic expert for the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF). Her expertise led to her appointment as the head of the Agency for Privatization from 1992 to 1994.

Interim Prime Minister

On October 17, 1994, following the resignation of Prime Minister Lyuben Berov, President Zhelyu Zhelev appointed Indzhova as the head of an anti-crisis government. During her brief tenure, she implemented successful economic policies and cracked down on organized crime.

Political Career and Later Life

In 1995, Indzhova ran for mayor of Sofia but came third. She later ran for president in 2001, receiving 4.9% of the vote. From 2012 to 2014, she served as the chairperson of the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria.

Personal Life

Renata Indzhova was married to Boyan Slavenkov, but they later divorced in the 1990s. They have a daughter named Ralitsa.
