Early Life and Education

Rose Christiane Raponda was born in 1964 and is a member of the Mpongwe ethnic group. She graduated from the Gabonese Institute of Economics and Finance, specializing in public finance.

Banking Career

Raponda began her career in the banking sector, serving as Director General for Economic Affairs and Assistant General Director at the Banque de l'Habitat du Gabon in the 2000s.

Political Ascendancy

In 2012, Raponda was appointed Minister of Budget, Public Accounts, and Civil Service. From 2014 to 2019, she served as the Mayor of Libreville, the capital of Gabon.

Minister of Defense

In February 2019, President Ali Bongo Ondimba appointed Raponda as Minister of Defense following an attempted military coup. She was sworn in in Rabat, Morocco, where the President was receiving medical treatment.

Prime Minister of Gabon

On July 16, 2020, President Ondimba appointed Raponda as Prime Minister, making her the first woman to hold the position in Gabon's history. She succeeded Julien Nkoghe Bekale.
