Early Life and Education
The Latvian politician, Riga City Council deputy, physicist, and public figure was born in the 1950s. He completed his primary education at the 63rd Secondary School in 1960. Subsequently, he graduated from the Riga Electromechanical Technical College in 1964 and from the University of Latvia in 1971.
Professional Career
From 1965 to 1972, he worked as an engineer at the Institute of Physics and the Physicotechnical Institute of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences. From 1972 to 1981, he taught physics at the Riga Civil Engineering Institute. Subsequently, from 1981 to 1990, he served as chief designer at the Special Design Bureau of Magnetohydrodynamics of the Institute of Physics of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences.
Political Career
In 1990, he was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Council of Latvia, representing the "Equality" faction. From 1993 to 2001, he worked as a journalist for the newspaper "Panorama Latvijas."
In 2001, he was elected to the Riga City Council under the "For Human Rights in United Latvia" list of the "Equality" quota. He was re-elected in 2005 and served as chairman of the Committee on Property Issues and Privatization from 2001 to 2005 and as chairman of the "For Human Rights in United Latvia" faction in the Riga City Council from 2003 to 2005.
Collaboration with the Centre Party
In 2007, he entered into a cooperation agreement with the Centre Party, leading to his expulsion from "For Human Rights in United Latvia." In 2009, he was re-elected as a deputy to the Riga City Council from the Centre Party. In 2010, he was elected chairman of the Riga City Council's Committee on Urban Development, a position he held until 2012.
