Early Life and Education
Dr. Simona Kustec was born on June 19, 1976, in Kamnik, Slovenia. She holds a PhD in political science.
Academic Career
Kustec has been a prolific academic, authoring over 400 scholarly articles published in leading Slovenian and international academic journals. She has served as a professor in the Department of Political Analysis and Public Management at the Faculty of Social Sciences and a researcher at the Center for Political Science Research at the University of Ljubljana. In the 2019/2020 academic year, she also lectured at the Venice International University.
Political Journey
In 2014, Kustec joined the Modern Centre Party and became Deputy Chair of the party. She was elected to the Slovenian National Assembly as a member of the 7th State Assembly on July 13, 2014, and led the party's parliamentary group from 2014 to 2018. Kustec contributed as an invited expert to the preparation of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) program for the 2019 European Parliament elections.
Minister of Education, Science, and Sport
On March 13, 2020, Kustec was appointed Minister of Education, Science, and Sport in the third Janez Janša cabinet.
