Early Life and Education

R'haiem Ben Aissa was born in Tunisia, the daughter of a shopkeeper. She attended primary school in the Tunis suburb of Ettahrir and secondary school in Nebeur and El Kef, where she earned her baccalaureate. In 2005, she graduated with a master's degree from the École Supérieure de Commerce de Manouba.

Career in France

After moving to France in 2005, Ben Aissa received a doctorate in management from the University of Toulon. She earned two further master's degrees in management, finance, and strategic control, as well as in international trade. She taught entrepreneurial strategy and management at the University of Paris and worked as a consultant in the nuclear industry.

Entry into Politics

In 2012, Ben Aissa naturalized as a French citizen. She became involved in the En Marche! (LREM) movement from its inception. In the 2017 parliamentary elections, she ran as a supporter of President Emmanuel Macron and defeated the official LREM candidate in the second round of voting.

Parliamentary Career

As a member of the LREM parliamentary group, Ben Aissa served on the Foreign Affairs Committee. She was one of fifteen left-wing "dissidents" who opposed the immigration bill proposed by Interior Minister Gérard Collomb.

Social Democratic Collective

In 2019, Ben Aissa joined the Social Democratic Collective, a group of left-wing LREM deputies. She had considered joining the new parliamentary group Liberty and Territories but found it too right-leaning.
