Biography of Stanislav Galiyev

Early Career

Stanislav Galiyev is a Canadian ice hockey forward of Russian descent. He began his playing career in 2008, spending one season with the USHL club "Indiana Ice". He was then selected as the first European pick in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft by the "Saint John Sea Dogs". In 2010, he was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the third round of the NHL draft, with the 86th overall pick.

Junior Career

During the 2010/11 season, Galiyev won the QMJHL President's Cup and the CHL Memorial Cup with the Sea Dogs. The following season, he once again won the QMJHL President's Cup.

NHL Debut

On April 9, 2015, Galiyev made his NHL debut for the Washington Capitals in a match against the Boston Bruins, which his team won 3-0. He played for a total of 9 minutes and 56 seconds. On April 11, 2015, he scored his first NHL goal against the New York Rangers.

Professional Career

On July 1, 2015, Galiyev signed a 2-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals worth $1.15 million. However, he only played 24 games for the Capitals before spending the entire 2016/17 season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears. In the summer of 2017, he returned to Russia and continued his playing career with the Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He signed a 2-year contract with the team. In his first season with Ak Bars, he won the Gagarin Cup and was the top scorer in the playoffs, scoring 10 goals. He also received the best plus/minus rating in elimination games.

International Career

Galiyev represented the Russian junior national team in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2009 and the Junior Super Series in 2010. In July 2017, he received an invitation to the Russian Olympic team and participated in the Sochi Hockey Open 2017 preseason tournament. He made his debut for the senior Russian national team on April 26, 2018, scoring a goal against Finland in the Euro Hockey Tour.

Return to Ak Bars

In May 2021, Galiyev joined Dynamo Moscow, but in July 2022, he returned to Ak Bars Kazan as part of a trade for Jordan Weal. In the 2022/23 season, he helped lead Ak Bars to win the Eastern Conference Championship and reach the finals of the Gagarin Cup, where they lost to CSKA Moscow in the seventh game.

Olympic Achievement

Galiyev won a silver medal as a member of the Olympic Athletes from Russia team at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he competed in the ice hockey tournament.
