Stepan Barna: A Political Leader with a Passion for Ukraine

Stepan Barna is a Ukrainian politician and statesman who has served in various government positions, including as the Head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration and as a member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament).

Early Life and Education

Stepan Barna was born on October 9, 1979, in the village of Nahoryanka, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. He is the son of village teachers Stepan Mykhailovych and Svitlana Liudvygivna. His brother, Oleh Stepanovych Barna, was a member of the eighth convocation of the Verkhovna Rada.

Barna graduated from Yahelnytsia Secondary School in 1996 and went on to study history at Ternopil Pedagogical Institute (now Ternopil National Pedagogical University). From 2001 to 2004, he was a graduate student at the Institute of Political and Ethnographic Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He also obtained a qualification in "Economics" from the Institute of Postgraduate Education at Ternopil Academy of National Economy (now Ternopil National Economic University).

Public and Political Activity

Barna has been actively involved in public and political life since the early 2000s. He served as the Chairman of the Ternopil Oblast Scientific and Research Society "Oberigy" from 1999 to 2004. He was also the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of this society and a member of the Council on Youth Policy under the Head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration.

In various capacities, Barna has worked to promote youth development, civic engagement, and cultural heritage preservation in his region. He has been a radio host, an author of publications in local media, and an organizer of cultural events.

Political Career

Barna's political career began in 2005 when he joined the "Our Ukraine" political party. He held various leadership positions within the party and worked as an advisor to the Minister of Family, Youth, and Sports of Ukraine. In 2006, he was elected as a deputy to the Ternopil Oblast Council.

In the 2014 parliamentary elections, Barna was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada on the "European Solidarity" party list. He served as the Co-Chairman of the Inter-Factional Parliamentary Association "Deputy Control."

Head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration

From April 2, 2015, to June 11, 2019, Barna served as the Head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration. During his tenure, he focused on economic development, infrastructure projects, and social welfare programs in the region. He resigned from the Verkhovna Rada to take on this executive role.

Family

Stepan Barna is married to Tetyana Petrivna Barna (born 1979), and they have a daughter, Sofia Stepanivna Barna (born 2004).
