Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine
Svetlana Hrynchuk has served as the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine since 5 September 2024.
Early Life and Education
Born on November 11, 1985, in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Hrynchuk graduated from the Chernivtsi Trade and Economics Institute of the State Trade and Economics University in 2008. In 2013, she completed her PhD dissertation and earned the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Career
Hrynchuk's career in environmental protection began in 2016 when she became Head of the Climate Change and Ozone Depletion Protection Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. She played a crucial role in implementing the Paris Climate Agreement in Ukraine.
In 2019, she was appointed Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine on environmental protection and climate change. A year later, she became Advisor to the Minister of Finance. In 2021, Hrynchuk co-founded the public organization "ESG Association Ukraine."
Government Positions
Hrynchuk served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources from 2022, with responsibility for European integration. In September 2023, she assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources
On 5 September 2024, the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, voted to appoint Hrynchuk as Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
