Biography of Tariel Barsegyan
Tariel Karapetovich Barsegyan (Armenian: Տարիել Կարապետի Բարսեղյան, born October 28, 1939, Etchmiadzin) is a renowned judge and former chairman of the Supreme Court of Armenia.
Early Life and Education
Tariel Barsegyan completed his secondary education in Yerevan, and in 1959, he graduated from Yerevan Technical School No. 1. From 1959 to 1962, he served in the army.
In 1967, Barsegyan graduated from the Law Faculty of Yerevan State University and entered the postgraduate program at the same university. Starting from 1970, he taught at the Civil Law Department of Yerevan State University.
In 1972, he defended his dissertation and obtained a candidate of legal sciences degree. He became an associate professor in 1977. From 1988 to 1990, Barsegyan served as the head of the Civil Law Department at Yerevan State University.
Career
From 1990 to 1998, Barsegyan was the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Armenia while simultaneously teaching at Yerevan State University.
During his career, Barsegyan also held the rank of a qualified judge. He was the host of the television program "Man and Law" for a long time.
Publications
Barsegyan has authored several articles and books on Armenian law, including "The Law of the Republic of Armenia" (1999), "Civil Law of the Armenian SSR" (1972, 1982), and "Civil Law of Armenia" (1999-2003).
