Early Life and Accident

Ton Blanker began his football journey in the youth ranks of DVS club. He later joined the renowned Ajax football academy in Amsterdam. However, his budding career was almost cut short when he suffered a serious accident while riding his moped. Surgeons performed an eight-hour operation, initially declaring that he would never play football again. Defying the odds, Ton vowed to his parents that he would resume his football pursuits.

Return to the Pitch

In 1977, Ton made a remarkable comeback and rejoined the Ajax youth team. He made his official debut for the senior team in September 1979, having previously played in an Amsterdam tournament against Real Madrid.

International Journey

After a single season with Ajax, Ton left the Netherlands to play for Vitória Guimarães in Portugal. He impressed during his stint with the Portuguese club, leading to a transfer to Zaragoza in Spain, managed by fellow Dutchman Leo Beenhakker.

Netherlands and US Stints

Ton returned to the Netherlands for a season with Excelsior before joining Volendam from 1983 to 1986. There, he reunited with his former coach Leo Beenhakker, scoring 14 goals in 50 appearances. He then relocated to the United States, playing for amateur clubs in the domestic league.

Return to Professionalism

In 1987, Ton returned to professional football, joining Germinal Beerschot in Belgium. However, a spinal injury forced him to prematurely end his playing career.

Post-Football Troubles

After his football career, Ton faced significant challenges. He was arrested by the police during a raid on his Amsterdam home, where authorities confiscated a large quantity of weapons and drugs. Witnesses alleged that he had been transporting them in his car. In 1995, Ton was sentenced to five years in prison, which was later reduced to three years on appeal. He has maintained his innocence to this day.
