Education and Early Career
Born in Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam, Tran Dai Quang joined the People's Police School in 1972 and graduated in 1986. He also studied at the Foreign Languages School in 1975, the National Security Institute in 1986, the Hanoi University of Law in 1994, and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in 1997. In 2009, he was awarded a doctorate in law and became a professor.
Political and Security Service
From 1975 to 1987, Tran Dai Quang worked at the 1st Department of Political Protection and the 2nd Department of Political Protection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOI). He held various leadership positions within the MOI, including Head of the Cadres Department (1987-1990), Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee (1990-1996), and Head of the General Security Department (1996-2000).
In 2000, he was promoted to Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Head of the General Security Department. He was awarded the rank of Major General in 2003 and became an associate professor. From 2006 to 2011, he served as Deputy Minister of Public Security and from 2011 to 2016 as Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Political Rise
In January 2006, Tran Dai Quang was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). He became a member of the Central Committee's Politburo in 2011. In May 2011, he entered the National Assembly (Vietnam's parliament) and was elected as a deputy for the 13th term.
Presidency and Death
In 2016, Tran Dai Quang became the tenth President of Vietnam and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. He was fluent in Chinese.
Tragically, President Tran Dai Quang passed away on September 21, 2018, at the age of 61 due to cardiovascular complications.
