Early Life and Activism
Born into a humble family, Ula Bardakçı enrolled at Middle East University in Ankara, where he was exposed to communist ideologies. Immersed in the turbulent political landscape, he became an active member of the Revolutionary Youth Federation of Turkey (Dev-Gen?).
Formation of the Revolutionary Movement
In late 1970, Ula Bardakçı allied with Mahir Çayan to establish the People's Liberation Party-Front of Turkey (THKP-C). He played a pivotal role in the party's armed operations, orchestrating audacious attacks against the government.
Kidnapping and Arrest
In May 1971, Bardakçı's THKP-C unit kidnapped the Israeli ambassador to Turkey. Their demands for the release of their comrades, arrested in the aftermath of a military coup, were not met. Tragically, the ambassador was killed.
Prison Escape and Underground Resistance
Following a failed government operation to rescue the ambassador, Bardakçı and his comrades were apprehended. In a daring escape in November 1971, Bardakçı and five other revolutionaries fled prison, determined to regroup and maintain the THKP-C's presence in Istanbul.
Final Confrontation and Death
However, Bardakçı's hideout was compromised, and the police laid siege to it on February 19, 1972. Refusing to surrender, he engaged in a fierce firefight. Amidst the chaos, Ula Bardakçı breathed his last, cementing his legacy as a symbol of revolutionary struggle in Turkey.
