Early Life and Education
Oleksandr Markovwas born in Ukraine on March 5, 1959. In 1981, he graduated from the Uman Agricultural Institute with a degree in agronomy. He later earned a law degree from the Kharkiv Law Academy in 1992.
Political Career
Early Political InvolvementAfter graduating from the agricultural institute, Markov worked as the chief agronomist of the "Slava" collective farm in the Volodymyr-Volynskyi district of Volyn Oblast. He then served as the first secretary of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi Komsomol city committee.
Service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces
From 1985 to 1989, Markov served in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR.
Party Membership
Markov joined the Party of Regions in 2003 and served as the deputy chairman of the Sevastopol city branch of the party.
Parliamentary Career
Markov was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2006, 2007, and 2012 as a member of the Party of Regions. He served on various committees, including the Committee on Justice and the Group for Interparliamentary Relations with the Russian Federation.
Advocacy for Russian-Speaking Population
Protection of Russian LanguageMarkov is known for his vocal support of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine. He has introduced several bills aimed at protecting the Russian language and authored an alternative report to the Council of Europe on alleged violations of the rights of Russian-speaking Ukrainians.
Awards and Recognition
In 2008, Markov was awarded the Order of Friendship by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. In 2010, he received the title of Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.
Personal Life
Markov is married to Liliya Makedon and has a son named Vsevolod, who was born in 2006.
