Veniamin Fedorovich Yakovlev

Early Life
- Born in Petukhovo, Kurgan Oblast, on February 12, 1932
- Father: Fyodor Kuzmich Yakovlev (1901-1942)
- Mother: Domna Pavlovna Yakovleva (1905-1997)
- Lost father to combat in the Great Patriotic War at age 9
- Childhood shaped by father's travels as an electrical engineer
Education and Career
- Studied law at Sverdlovsk Law Institute, graduating in 1953

- Taught theory of state and law and criminal law at Yakutsk Law School from 1953-1956

- Joined the Yakutsk ASSR Prosecutor's Office in 1956, where he first encountered civil law

Return to Academia

- Earned a PhD from Sverdlovsk Law Institute in 1963 with a dissertation on "Civil Law Method of Regulating Social Relations"

- Held various academic positions at Sverdlovsk Law Institute, including chair of the department and vice-rector for scientific work

Senior Positions

- Appointed Director of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Legal Sciences in 1987

- Became Minister of Justice of the USSR in 1989

- Oversaw legal reforms and the development of new legislation, including the foundations of the USSR Civil Code
